Kelly Buchberger

Kelly Buchberger grew up playing hockey in Langenburg, a small village located in southeastern Saskatchewan. Buchberger played his Under-18 hockey years with Moose Jaw before moving up to the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL, and then the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. In Moose Jaw, Buchberger would have his number 24 jersey retired with the club in 2009. Clifford "Cliff" Koroll

Clifford "Cliff" Koroll (Canora, Sask.) burst onto the Saskatchewan hockey scene playing for the Under-18 ‘A’ Saskatoon Wesley’s. Koroll helped the team win a provincial championship in 1961-62 and was also a major factor in the Wesley’s 1963-64 Juvenile ‘A’ provincial championship. Nicholas "Nick" Schultz was born in Strasbourg, Sask., and started playing Minor hockey for the Strasbourg Maroons up until his second year of Bantam. In 1987-88, Schultz would move up and play one season of Under-18 ‘AAA’ with the Yorkton Mallers where he would be named Rookie of the Year, Top Defenceman, and Most Valuable Player of the league’s All-Star game. Mandi Schwartz started playing Minor hockey at the age of 6 in Melfort before her family relocated to Emerald Park where she would play Tier 1, boys hockey. As Schwartz made her way to the Under-18 age level she would be on the move again, this time to Wilcox as she enrolled at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. Gerry James was born in 1934 in Regina. At an early age, James would move to Winnipeg and graduate from Kelvin High School. James was a duel-sport athlete, playing competitively in both hockey and football. At age 16, James was playing for the Winnipeg Monarchs Junior hockey team and a year later would become the youngest Canadian Football League (CFL) player to ever play. Allan "Al" Harrison (Maryfield, Sask.) began coaching with Yorkton Minor Hockey in 1977. Al and his wife Linda had three sons named Michael, Dallas, and Bradly which meant Harrison would take on various roles as coach, manager, and even bus driver for their teams. As Harrison’s kids grew older, Harrison continued his love for coaching, joining the Under-18 “AAA” Yorkton Mallers. Wayne Henley grew up on a farm just south of Fort Qu’Appelle. Henley was a hard-working individual that travelled around the province for his job. After stops in Regina and Weyburn, Henley would meet his life partner Kae Knelson in Swift Current. The young couple moved to Ituna before 1966 when Henley was promoted and transferred to a position in Yorkton. In Yorkton, Henley would immerse himself in the community through volunteer work. The (1992-93) Yorkton Mallers played in the Under-18 age category along with teams throughout Saskatchewan. Prior to the 1992-93 season, the Mallers were selected to host the Air Canada Cup Western Regional Tournament giving them an automatic birth in the tournament. During the season, the Mallers finished in second place heading into playoffs.
